Trello, Asana, and ClickUp are among the most well-known project and task management tools. They are popular, feature-rich, and used by teams around the world. However, they may not be the best choice for a small or medium-sized business in Slovakia. They tend to be complex, they are in English, and the features that businesses need most often are often only available in more expensive plans.
In this article, we’ll go over what to look for when choosing a tool, how these tools differ, and who is best suited to which one.

What to look for when choosing a project management tool
Before you decide, answer a few questions to save yourself unnecessary switching from one tool to another.
1. Who will use it?
If the tool is only going to be used by the project manager, it can be more complex. If it is going to be used by the entire team, including people who are new to such applications, simplicity is key. The best tool is the one that people actually open.
2. In what language?
Many popular tools are not in Slovak. For some teams, this is not a problem, for others it is the reason why they stop using the application. If you have people on your team who do not like working in English, language will play a bigger role than it seems at first glance.
3. What kind of displays do you need?
Every team looks at work differently:
- Board (Kanban) shows the status of tasks.
- List is suitable for quick overview and sorting.
- Calendar shows the dates.
- Timeline (Gantt chart) It shows how tasks are connected and whether you can complete the project.
Pay attention to which plan has which view available. Calendar and timeline are usually available in more expensive plans.
4. How much will it really cost?
The price per user seems low at first glance. The key is how much you pay for a plan that includes all the features you need, and how much it will be for the entire team.
5. Who is the provider?
With a foreign instrument, you pay by card in dollars and the terms and conditions are in English. A Slovak provider will issue you an invoice in euros, the terms and conditions are in Slovak, and in case of a problem, you can communicate in your own language.

Trello: simple board, additional features for an additional fee
Trello is known for its board cards that move between columns. It’s easy to understand and great for getting started quickly.
However, if you need to see appointments on the calendar or plan on the timeline, you need to upgrade to the Premium plan. Trello is also available in Czech, but not Slovak.
Who is it suitable for: teams that are satisfied with a whiteboard and don’t want to deal with more complex planning.
Asana: lots of options for larger teams
Asana offers lists, boards, a calendar, and a timeline. It’s strong at planning larger projects and connecting the work of multiple teams.
This breadth comes at a cost, both in complexity and price. It can be unnecessarily large for a smaller team and takes longer to learn. It does not support Slovak or Czech.
Who is it suitable for: larger companies with multiple teams and experienced project managers.
ClickUp: all in one, but also a lot of configuration
ClickUp tries to replace multiple tools at once: tasks, documents, goals, and chat. It offers a huge number of settings.
That’s also its weakness. New teams can easily get lost in it and it takes a while to set it up. ClickUp isn’t even in Slovak.
Who is it suitable for: teams that want to have everything in one place and are willing to invest time in setup.
Projecco: a simple Slovak alternative
We built Projecco for small and medium-sized businesses in Slovakia and the Czech Republic who find big tools too complicated or expensive. It works similarly to Trello and Asana, but is simpler and entirely in Slovak.
[OBRÁZOK: časová os (Gantt) v Projeccu]
What you will find in it:
- Board, list, calendar and timeline (Gantt). You look at the same job in a way that suits you.
- Task assignment, deadlines, priorities and comments directly on the task.
- Subtasks, labels, and custom fields for work that doesn’t fit the template.
- Roles and permissions, so that everyone can see what they have.
- Email alerts and calendar feed, so that you don’t miss any deadlines.
- Real-time changes. You will see immediately what your colleague will change.
All features are included in one price, without higher plans. The application works in the browser, nothing needs to be installed. It is also available in Czech.
Who is it suitable for: small and medium-sized companies that want an overview of their work without complicated setup, in Slovak and at a fair price.
How to switch from another tool
The biggest concern when changing tools is what will happen to your existing work. At Projecc, we can help you with the transition: we can transfer tasks from Trello or Excel and set up the application according to how you work. One-time setup and import costs from €50.
A proven procedure:
- Start with one project. Don’t move everything at once.
- Involve the whole team right from the start. A tool that only half of people use doesn’t provide insight.
- Agree on the rules. Who creates tasks, what the columns are named, when a task moves to ‘Done’.
- Evaluate after two weeks. What works, what needs to be adjusted.
Conclusion
There is no one best tool for everyone. Asana and ClickUp are great for larger teams that need a lot of features and are willing to pay for them. Trello is good if you just need a simple board.
